Hull, superstructure, systems and interior all take shape under the same roof at ORKAN. No supplier pointing at another supplier, and no main contractor managing both. Whoever signs with us talks to the same people right up to handover.

Average build time from keel laying to sea trial. We take on four commissions a year, no more.
Founded as a repair yard on the Lower Elbe. The first yacht of our own was launched in 1981 and is still sailing today.
There is no catalogue. Every line is drawn for one owner and never sold again.
Four build slots a year. Two of them are already taken for 2027.
Request a visitWe draw the lines plan, the general arrangement and the interior ourselves. You talk to the naval architect who later stands in the hall, not to a go-between.

Both in our own shop, depending on the cruising ground.
Largest length overall built so far. The smallest was 24 metres.
Two yard berths stay reserved for owners all year round. Anyone who has built with us gets a berth and a technician without an appointment.
Come and see what we are building right now.
Request a visitPull the slider. The figures come from our previous builds and are no substitute for a quotation, but they show the order of magnitude you are thinking in.
Your figures will be different, of course. That is exactly what the visit is for.
Request a visitFour places that decide whether a ship is merely large or whether you want to live on it. We draw all four in house and build them in the same hall.
“For the second boat I did not bring a consultant along. In the hall you can tell straight away whether the people know what they are doing.”
“We looked at seven yards. ORKAN was the only one where the naval architect turned up with oil on his hands.”
“After eleven years, a gearbox failure off Bornholm. Two days later a yard technician was standing on the pontoon.”
Reckon on two to four months for design and contract, then twelve to eighteen months of build time, depending on length and fit-out level. We hand out at most four build slots a year, so depending on the schedule the start may have to wait.
Any time, without an appointment. Owners get a yard pass. Most come every few weeks, some every week, and we consider that a good part of the build.
Yes, if you already have someone. Our own team then takes on engineering and execution and coordinates directly with your office. Responsibility for the finished ship stays with us either way.
That depends on the cruising ground. For high latitudes and long passages we build steel, because it can be repaired where there is no yard. For the Mediterranean and anything built for speed, carbon is the better choice.
Two berths at our pontoon stay free for owners all year round. For winter storage, refit and damage you are not a new customer here, but somebody whose ship we built and whose drawings are still in the house.
A yard visit takes half a day, costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Afterwards you will know whether we are the right people.
